Mission Statement: Helping meet the nutritional, emotional and spiritual needs of others through the generosity of 'neighbors helping neighbors' throughout King George County and surrounding communities.
Love Thy Neighbor is a non-profit 501(c)3, volunteer operated, Christian organization which began December 2012. Our mission, once a month, is to offer an atmosphere of love and encouragement where we provide special music, an inspirational message, a hot meal and about a week’s worth of groceries to take home. Our main focus is on food, so folks in need can use their limited income for other necessities such as housing and utilities. Most of our guests are Seniors, disabled, un-employed or under-employed. In addition, we deliver to neighbors that may be sick or shut-in. We are currently helping approximately 120 families a month and serving 150+ meals at our event.
Love Thy Neighbor's leadership team is made up of dedicated volunteers with diverse denominational backgrounds. We also have 20-25 additional volunteers participating at each monthly event. God is sweeping through King George County in beautiful ways! Many businesses, organizations and churches are currently partnering with us in our effort to reach out to our community.
For the last 18 months we have reached out to our King George and surrounding area neighbors to offer a time of fellowship and support through our Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry. Our first event took us three months to organize and we served nearly 70 families. Since then, we have offered the same service each month and have helped up to 120 families which accounts for nearly 2000 families to date. We have also offered other outreach ministries to include health checks by a registered nurse, Bible distribution by the Gideons, hair cuts by professional hair stylists and barbers along with mini workshops to encourage our neighbors to set goals towards becoming more self-sufficient. Although it took us 3 months to organize our first event, we now operate on donations and financial support from local churches and businesses to fill our pantry and provide the meals each month. Many months we start with an empty food pantry and must work diligently and persistently throughout the month to restock the pantry and monetary funds to provide the ongoing service.
Our goal for the coming year is to work towards having sponsorships and applying for grants to help stabilize our funds. This would enable us to provide more nutritional food choices, promote more programs to help individuals become more self-sufficient and additional services to assist in our Community’s physical and mental health needs. Our vision is to work towards being a community where everyone’s basic needs are met.
As the Spring/Summer season approaches we would like to ask for your help. Would you consider doing a one-time or on-going Food Drive ~ or ~ perhaps join our sponsorship program with a one-time donation or on-going monthly allotment using our PayPal system directly into the Love Thy Neighbor account, mailing a check or making a deposit at any Union First Market Bank. We are conscientious stewards of all donations and appreciate our Community coming together to help in any way they can. All monies and/or donations are tax-deductible.
God bless you and God bless King George County!
